Fire destroyed the Dekalb County Record Herald newspaper building on the courthouse square in Maysville this morning. Firefighters from 17 communities responded. Two occupants of the building escaped unharmed, but one firefighter was treated at the scene. The fire was reported shortly before one am. It knocked out power in downtown Maysville for several hours, and the city's water system could not keep up with the demands of the pumper trucks. A "porta pond" was set up to provide additional water to the firefighters. The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
