Contractors began tearing down the Eshelman building near 6th and Edmond Monday, less than a week after the structure was gutted by fire. Workers with drills, saws, and picks were hoisted by a crane to the top of the building to tear away at the charred remnants of the building. By mid-day they had brought down roughly have of the remaining structure. The building was declared an "immediate danger" by city officials and the owners opted to tear it down rather than try to repair it. So far the cause of the fire has not been released.
